Essence of Peru 21d/20n

Lima - Chiclayo - Trujillo - Nazca - Ballestas - Paracas - Arequipa - Colca Canyon - Puno - Lake Titicaca - Cusco - Machupicchu - Lima

Peru is a country of astounding contrasts. Depending on which part you choose to visit, the culture and landscapes are dramatically different. On this trip we have the chance to explore the coast along the rich Peruvian ocean, whose low temperatures originate from an amazing desert climate, home to the ancient cultures of the Chimu, Moche and Paracas. We will not leave the coast before visiting the seal colonies on the Ballestas Islands, and flying over the world famous Nazca lines. Leaving the sea behind us, we will visit the White City of Arequipa, see condors fly in the Colca Canyon and go deep into the altiplano (high Andean plateau) to visit the highest navigable lake in the world: Lake Titicaca. Later we will find ourselves enchanted by the magical city of Cusco and above all by the impressive citadel of Machupicchu. The tropical rainforest will be our final destination on this trip. Here we will navigate along the magnificent Tambopata River and walk among colossal Chihuahuacos, while the most exotic and elusive of animals watch us go by.

Tambopata Reserve 3d/2n - Sandoval Lake Lodge

Daily departures to the only lodge overlooking the most beautiful and wildlife-packed oxbow lake in the Amazon rainforest of Southern Peru. Jungle explorations, lake visits, full board, accommodations and entrance fee to Tambopata National Reserve included.

Tambopata Reserve & Heath Macaw Clay Lick 5d/4n

This extension combines a pleasant trip to the Tambopata National Reserve plus a visit to Puerto Maldonado’s closest large macaw clay lick and to the extraordinary bio-diverse Pampas del Heath, covering two ecosystems: rainforest and savannah. It is an ideal short Amazon itinerary offering the most habitats and the most wildlife viewing in the Tambopata - Madidi (Bolivia) region, and a high quality extension to a visit to Cusco and Machupicchu.

Northern Kingdoms (Chiclayo and Trujillo) 3d/2n

Explore and enjoy the amazing archaeological sites and diverse cultures of the north coast. With one night in Chiclayo and one in Trujillo, this itinerary includes visits to Tucume, the Sipan archaeological site, and the Museum of the Royal Tombs, one of the finest in South America. Near Trujillo we visit Chan Chan (the 500-acre complex of pre-Columbian royal palaces) and the majestic Moche Temples of the Sun and the Moon.

Nazca Lines and Ballestas Islands 2d/1n

This 2-day extension covers the visit to the Southern coastal desert of Peru, combining a flight over the enigmatic Nazca lines, with a boat trip to the wildlife reserve of the Ballestas Islands and a visit to the Paracas National Reserve, before returning to Lima. We spend the night in Ica, a city famous for its wine and pisco making tradition.

Manu National Park 4d/3n - Manu Wildlife Center

Explore one of the world’s top jungle destinations, Manu National Park, by far the richest, most extraordinary biological transect in the Amazon, boasting the highest bird, mammal and plant diversity of any park on Earth. Activities include a visit to Manu’s only accessible macaw clay lick, a visit to the world’s largest Tapir clay lick, oxbow lakes with giant otters and unlimited access to a unique canopy observation platform. The selected lodge, Manu Wildlife Center, is considered as one of the best rainforest lodges in South America by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

Arequipa and the Colca Canyon 4d/3n

Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru, was declared World Heritage in the year 2001 and is famous for its historic and cultural value. Some of the city’s main attractions are its beautiful architecture and its numerous and valuable colonial churches, together with the proximity to one of the deepest canyons on earth: the Colca Canyon. Displaying unique natural scenery, the Colca canyon is considered one of the best spots for observing the condor. Spread along its surrounding valley are more than a dozen colonial villages inhabited by the Collagua and Cabana ethnic groups, offering extraordinary examples of civil and religious architecture.

Lake Titicaca and Suasi island 4 days / 3 nights

Visit the highest navigable lake on earth and spend 2 days at the exclusive Suasi Island, a private 43-hectare dream island near the remote northern shores of the lake. We depart from Puno, visit Sillustani’s gigantic funerary monuments and the islands of Uros and Taquile before we continue by boat to Suasi Island, where we spend 2 days enjoying this lovely and charming retreat with amazing lake views.

Homestay in Lake Titicaca 4 days / 3 nights

This 4-day extension includes the visit of Puno, Sillustani’s gigantic funerary monuments and the most well-known of lake Titicaca’s Islands: Uros, where people live on floating bundles of reeds, and Taquile and Amantaní, where traditional crafts still dominate the way of life.
